The fourth and final chapter of the Walking Ferns Archaeology Series takes us beyond Kerala to Keeladi, one of South India’s significant archaeological sites.

Located near the Vaigai River in Tamil Nadu, Keeladi has opened an important window into ancient settlement, crafts, trade, technology and everyday life. Excavations have revealed artefacts and structural remains that help us ask deeper questions about the people and societies that lived here centuries ago.

This expedition is not simply about visiting an archaeological site. It is an opportunity to understand how we learn about the past;  through places, objects, structures, inscriptions, stories and archaeological evidence.

🚆 November 21
Journey from Calicut

We begin our journey by train from Calicut on the evening of November 21.

🏺 November 22
Keeladi — reading the past through archaeology

    • Visit the Keeladi archaeological site
      • Explore the Keeladi Museum
      • Special session with a historian on the historical and archaeological significance of Keeladi
      • Observe archaeological remains and artefacts
      • Understand how archaeologists reconstruct stories of past communities from material evidence
      • Explore questions around settlement, crafts, technology, trade and everyday life

Rather than simply being told what happened in the past, children will be encouraged to look, question, connect and interpret.
