Walking Ferns Archaeology Series, Chapter 2: Edakkal Caves Expedition

📅 Date: February 14
📍 Location: Edakkal Caves, Wayanad, Kerala
Early morning exploration

This second chapter of our Archaeology Series takes us to one of India’s most significant prehistoric sites, Edakkal Caves, perched on the Ambukuthi Hills. The caves are known for their ancient rock carvings and inscriptions, offering rare glimpses into early human life, beliefs, and expression.

To make the most of the experience and avoid crowds, we plan to start early in the morning. For this reason, we are exploring the option of staying the previous night in Sulthan Bathery. Stay details are currently being worked out and will be shared soon. Stay and food expenses will be shared at actuals. The program fee covers facilitation, entry fee, local transport etc.

What to expect:

• A guided trek (about 1.5 km uphill, moderate difficulty)
• Exploration of rock art and inscriptions inside the caves with the help of a local guide
• Learning to observe history through landforms, markings, and context
• Continuing the archaeological journey that began in Chapter 1

This experience is best suited for children and families who are comfortable with walking uphill. Good walking shoes, water, and light backpacks are recommended.

💡 Open to children and curious families
💡 Limited seats. Register soon

PS: Community discounts are available for early Walking Ferns members and families who may need support. Feel free to reach out for a discount code.
